Is it possible for a Christian to lose their salvation?

 



 

The Bible says, "No!" One who is saved "has everlasting life, and ... is passed from death unto life" (John 5:24). Eternal life by definition cannot be temporary. It is the present possession of all those who have truly trusted Christ.

Romans 8:28-39 reveals clearly that there is nothing in the universe that can separate the elect from the love of God. The One who chose to save you "is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy" (Jude 24).
Those who fall away have never been thoroughly imbued with the knowledge of Christ but only had a slight and passing taste of it. - John Calvin 
According to Scripture, people who profess to know Christ at one time but later deny Him were never really saved, to begin with. First John 2:19 says, "They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, in order that it might be shown that they all are not of us."
Another guarantee of our inheritance is our persevering faith. Peter said we are protected by God’s power through faith (1 Pet. 1:5). Faith is God’s gift to us; we don’t generate it on our own (Eph. 2:8-9; Phil. 1:29). Faith is aroused by grace, upheld by grace, and energized by grace. Grace reaches into the soul of the believer, generating and maintaining faith. By God’s grace alone we trust Christ, and by grace we continue to believe.  - John MacArthur 
A true believer will never depart from the faith (Philippians 1:6), so those who do so are revealing that they were never truly saved (John 8:31; Hebrews 3:14).
Even true Christians can sin, however, and because of that may lack assurance of salvation (Psalm 51:12). A failure to grow spiritually can also rob us of the confidence that we are God's children (2 Peter 1:9). But anyone indwelt by the Holy Spirit is secure eternally, because He is the "deposit guaranteeing our inheritance" (Ephesians 1:14).

The last two things I'll say is that when Christ died on the cross his single act was big enough to cover for all times the sins of those who would believe.  If you could lose your salvation then Jesus would have to come every time you sinned and be born of a virgin, live a perfect life, and die the crucifixion death every time you 'lost your salvation.' 
14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified(set apart). Hebrews 10:14
Secondly, Luke 14:34  shows us that if you could lose your salvation you could never get that salvation back.  
34 “Salt is good, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? 35 It is of no use either for the soil or for the manure pile. It is thrown away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
Know, that when Christ saves you, he saves you completely and fully.  He will never lose one of his children to sin.  He will continue to save and sanctify those who would believe.

Is Christianity quickly diminishing in US, on pace to become minority religion in decades?

  I read an  article  that was very interesting.  Here is what I found interesting in this article: ' Noting how approximately 90% of Americans identified as Christians in the early 1990s, the study observed that number, which includes children, had fallen to only 64% by 2020. The number of people in the U.S. who identify as religiously unaffiliated, meanwhile, skyrocketed from 16% in 2007 to 29% in 2020, the research showed. Other religions such as Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism, accounted for approximately 6% in 2020. The study presented four hypothetical scenarios by which the U.S. religious landscape could change in the coming decades. In one scenario, researchers analyzed the potential impact of young Christian adults abandoning their faith and switching affiliation without limitation.'
